How can one creation utilize the available materials and cater the usage to those in need of everyday neccessity such as housing?
Le Corbusier's "Asile Flottant" ("Floating Refuge"), led by Japanese architect Kunio Maekawa, is a significant and unique project in his body of work. Originally completed in 1929, the 70 meters long barge was turned into a Parisian homeless shelter by the Seine. The original ship was constructed out of concrete due to the lack of iron during the war. Concrete was a material integral to Le Corbusier's architectural language and often created warmth with the brutally functional.
